Volunteers

The day is composed of periods living alongside community members and sharing housekeeping; working periods; social therapy practice and planning.

We aim to create social warmth and a sense of inclusion for those who would otherwise find themselves living a lonely and isolated life. Thus we provide vibrant work opportunities whereby individuals can achieve and actualise their potential.

Co-workers receive weekly pocket money, board and lodging.

They have one free day weekly and five weeks holiday per year.

Supervision is provided from various sources, i.e. team meetings, training, individual mentoring .

Opportunities exist for longer lengths of stay and further involvement in community responsibilities if a co-worker is interested and suited.

Co-workers live in different situations from sharing a house with another co-worker and four community members to living in a self-contained bedsit.

Please note that you may well be required to move your living situation during your stay here.

Our emphasis must be on the needs of the community members and the support they need.

Therefore changes are made in co-workers living situations to meet those needs as the priority. This requires generosity to others as a necessary quality.

Typically co-workers who gain the most from their experience here show the following qualities:

  • * have a positive attitude to life and are enthusiastic
  • * have a sense of humour
  • * are sociable and take human interest in others
  • * are able to self-reflect and learn from misunderstandings
  • * are flexible and adaptable to change
  • * are able to support Christian festivals
  • * are able to take feedback positively
  • * are interested in supporting management directives
  • * are able to accept that they do not initiate at management level in their first year with us
  • * are able to work in a team
  • * can put the interest of others before the interest of themselves

I ask you to read through the above carefully and consider whether you aspire to these qualities. If necessary read through this with a friend who understands English and knows you. Our intention is to help you understand what is needed here and be helpful in your decision to join us.
