Camphill Houses

from dependence to interdependence

Welcome to Camphill Houses!!

Camphill Houses is a small urban community of 40 people with a 5acre market garden  in the West Midlands of England close to Birmingham.

We live together in our 4 households, 3 of them in the town itself and one a short drive away in the countryside, where we also run a market garden producing fresh biodynamic vegetables.

People who come to us strive for an independent life and we try and support them on the road to independence. Most of the people we support, wish to eventually leave and live more independently, so we also have quite a few people living in individual flats.

Our work lies not so much in daily care but in providing support and friendship to our people so that they can make the necessary steps in their life.

We share household tasks,eg cooking ,cleaning ,shopping etc.Everybody works either in the community eg.the market garden or our households or in the town itself eg.charity shop ,plant nursery etc.

We run a Paint Your Own Pottery Cafe with attached Gift Shop and a small craft workshop.

Camphill has many diverse communities, but what binds us together is the work of Rudolf Steiner: Anthroposophy. Out of his body of teaching we celebrate the Christian festivals and a weekly Bible Evening which provides a nurturing base for our work together. The emphasis is very much on enabling every member of the community to reach their full potential.

Stourbridge is an interesting little town on the edge of the larger Birmingham area. There are plenty of social ,and cultural activities close by, on the other hand the beautiful English countryside is just a short bike ride away .
